OneNote is an app that we all use at some time of our school day. This is a good app for students and/or teachers who take notes on a daily basis. The notes can be all online and will always be organized the way you want them to be. A Microsoft account is needed for the notes to be online and prices may vary for the app. To use the OneNote app, you will need to download OneNote from Self Service.

All of us here at Shakopee are able to use OneNote for our classes with our Microsoft accounts. Many students may not know they have a Microsoft account. To log into Microsoft OneNote either online or in the app, you will need to make sure you are logging in as a “Work or school account.” Once you select the correct account, the email to use will be your Shakopee Schools Gmail address (######@shakopeeschools.org) and your password for any school issued account.

If you are logged in online, your front page of OneNote may look like mine:

Otherwise, the app will look like this:

Between the two different ways to use OneNote, they are fairly similar. Obviously, the downloaded app will have full features. OneNote Online may look like this when inside of a notebook:

Otherwise, the OneNote app may look like this:

One key feature to know for the OneNote app is how to create a new notebook. To do this, the easiest way is to click on “New” after you log in and then your screen should come to this:

Otherwise, if you are a notebook already, click on the name of the notebook and then the plus mark:

A tool that is key for OneNote is the OneNote Web Clipper. This is an extension for Google Chrome that can clip pages on from the web to send to your OneNote notebook to annotate for your notes. First, you must install the OneNote Web Clipper from the Chrome Web Store (must be signed in with your Google account):

One the extension is installed, you must log in the same way you would for OneNote straight from the extension. You can decide which notebook and which section of your notebook to make a page for the web clipping. The features you will see are Full Page, Region, Article, and Bookmark:

Once you clip from the web, the clipping will be in its own page in you selected notebook section.

OneNote is useful for whatever you wish to use it for. Anyone can use OneNote and you may use OneNote for any daily things you may need. Some examples include class notes, shopping lists, to do lists, general notes, and much more.
